Lake fish
Lake Garda offers a unique variety of freshwater fish that are staples of local cuisine. Dishes like grilled whitefish (coregone), pike in sauce, and bigoli with sardines highlight the delicate yet distinctive flavors of fish caught in the lake. Enjoy them in traditional trattorias where recipes have been passed down through generations.

Garda DOP Oil – The Green Gold of Lake Garda
One of the northernmost olive oils in Europe, Garda DOP extra virgin olive oil is a symbol of the lake’s terroir. Known for its mild, fruity aroma and balanced taste, it’s made from local olives grown in the gentle hills surrounding the lake. Best enjoyed raw, it enhances every dish — from fish to salads — with a touch of refined simplicity.

Boiled Meat with Pearà – A Taste of Veronese Tradition
A traditional dish from Verona, bollito con pearà features tender boiled meats served with a rich bread and black pepper sauce.
Hearty and flavorful, it’s especially popular in colder months and often found in trattorias around Lake Garda.
Once humble peasant food, it’s now a true symbol of Veronese culinary tradition.

White Wines of Lake Garda
Fresh, elegant and full of character, the white wines of Lake Garda are among the most appreciated in Northern Italy. Lugana DOC, made from the native Turbiana grape, is the region’s flagship white: mineral, balanced and perfect with lake fish. Other notable whites include Nosiola, Müller-Thurgau and Chardonnay, often found in the Trentino and Alto Garda areas.

Rosé Wines of Lake Garda
Lake Garda is home to two iconic rosés: Chiaretto di Bardolino (eastern shore) and Valtenesi Chiaretto (western shore). Both are fresh, dry, and delicately fruity, made from local red grapes like Groppello, Corvina and Sangiovese. Ideal as an aperitif or paired with light summer dishes, these rosés capture the essence of the lake’s relaxed lifestyle.

Red Wines of Lake Garda
Though known for its whites and rosés, Lake Garda also offers a selection of smooth and approachable red wines. Bardolino DOC, a light red made from Corvina and Rondinella grapes, is perfect for everyday drinking. On the western side, Groppello is a unique local varietal producing soft, aromatic reds. For more structure, Amarone and Valpolicella from the nearby hills are widely available in the area.
